Nietzsche/Dionysus/Bacchae - Nietzsche believed that the development of art was caught in the relationship between the Greek deities: Apollo and Dionysus. Dionysus inspired art through intoxication. These ideas are explained further, humans are terrorized by phenomena (Schopenhauer), where they cannot reason anymore (middle of pg. 36 is the explanation). Dionysus adds ecstasy to this terror, and this ecstasy arises from nature. And lastly, that we break down the individual and unify him/her with nature, animals, and all humans. This inspires in humans, song and dance, a celebration. But it also threatens their being. The human forgets there self. “But even seeks to destroy the individual and redeem him by a mystical feeling of oneness.” (38)

I really want to do a lot with blog. Obviously, I want to bring people the music I love and am listening to. But I have a lot of trouble deciding how to bring it to you (i.e. what format). Images, links to the artist’s website, Youtube videos, quotes, whatever. Those are all well and good but people want to have music that is “theirs”. What I mean by this is that people want links to Mediafire, Megaupload, and so on. And yet, we all want to support the artist (I hope). So as I ponder what do with this blog/Tumblr/whatever, would you be so kind as to send me some ideas… Your preferences. Thanks!

I’ve been falling in love with Schiller’s “Ode to Joy”. Beethoven wrote this beautiful symphony partly about this poem. His interpretation comes in the Fourth Movement.

“Regarding my classical background: indeed, I’m classically trained on violin

and piano - and I’m attracted especially by Russian composers, during my

piano lessons I was introduced to play some solo works by Rachmaninoff

besides the ‘standard’ stuff like Bach, Chopin, Beethoven, Brahms and the

likes… Also some of the Skryabin and Khatchaturian pieces I played are

really outstanding - well and whilst playing the violin in various

orchestras I got the chance to play lots of symphonic stuff, again the

Russians (especially Shostakovich!) stood out. So it’s not just an

“interest” in classical music, I grew up with it from my early childhood.

Shouldn’t everyone have a concept when working out an album? At least the

wish to create something cohesive…? Just asked this myself… ‘Acoustic

Tales’ is based on the idea to create a collection of auditory short stories

as the short story is one of my favourite literary genres since I know the

work of Kafka and Hemingway. So I started to adapt its traits into acoustic

forms. That was the concept behind all this…

Regarding your question about electro-acoustic music - got into it by chance

coming from a classical background when I started to create some “ambient”

stuff. Didn’t see any connection first but finally got the spot on the idea

to combine acoustic elements with computer-processed recordings and some

electronic sounds likewise. And as I don’t have any studio gear I’m somewhat

thankful that I can just do my own recordings with real instruments (and

field recordings by the way) - they still are the most interesting sources

of sound in my opinion.”
